Why It’s a Bad Idea to Ignore Foggy or Drafty Windows

Windows naturally fog up, and it’s something that you usually ignore and chalk up to just a normal occurrence in everyday life. Some condensation or fog could be normal. But if your windows are consistently fogged, or the fog is so excessive that it impedes your ability to see clearly, then that could be a sign of a more serious problem.

Signs of Damage

If your windows are excessively foggy, then it could mean that your windows may have a crack or a chip. A crack on your window, if left alone, could easily spread so it should not be ignored. If you allow moisture to build up and collect on your windows, it significantly increases the likelihood of mold growth, which can be detrimental to your health.

A drafty window can also wreak havoc on your HVAC system by causing it to work harder than it should. The effectiveness of your home’s insulation could be severely compromised leading to higher energy bills.

When to Have It Replaced

As mentioned above, fog on your windows is a natural occurrence, especially in certain climates. Before making any rash decisions, you should contact a reputable window replacement company and seek a professional opinion.

Extra fog can indicate a broken seal in double-pane windows, causing condensation to collect between the two panes. If this is the case, then you should have your windows replaced. Single-pane windows are also more prone to fog, so it is a good investment to upgrade to double-pane windows if your budget allows for it.
